Podcast Seasons: A Time For Change
“The secret to change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” Socrates
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
Knowing when it’s time for a change is a key sign that growth is on the horizon. For podcasters, this saying is true. Trying to avoid change is like trying to resist the urge to go to the restroom. Eventually, your bladder wins and you have to give in to the inevitable.
Podcast changes can be as simple as an updated thumbnail graphic or as complicated as picking the right host to store your awesomely created content. In either case, neither change happens lightly and serious considerations should occur head-on.
Seasons of change are always plaguing those in the realm of business; especially for those in the multimedia realms. It doesn’t matter how long an individual has been in their select industry at some point a change will present itself.
For instance, I’ve been in media for over seven years and have undergone my share of changes. Although none of the changes resulted in total demise I can say in the beginning there was an internal feeling of bewilderment. I wanted to quit and walk away from media but that is when a spiritual awakening took place deep within.
Instead of throwing in the towel with the attitude of negativity, I decided it was time for a complete overhaul of the podcast.
That’s right! After seven years of building my radio/podcast show The Journey A Meeting of The Minds the time has come to make a few in-depth changes. First, the name had to go. I had to create a name that encompasses the newfound direction the podcast is going. This decision was not easy to develop. It seemed that every name I came up with another person already staked their claim to it.
Filled with uncertainty, slowly back to the mind map drawing board I went.
As the days went by I began to stop concentrating on the podcast and focus on other important things.
Then one morning at 4 am God awoke me to pray as He typically does each day. This time after prayer I picked up my phone to read the Bible. I landed on a particular scripture that made the lightbulbs in my mind shine like a beacon. The scripture was Jeremiah 17:7-8. I’ve read this many times throughout my Christian journey. This time the words began to leap off the screen. It was during this pinnacle moment of clarity when I knew exactly what had to occur. My show not only needed a new name but also the structure and objective also required a revamp. This was the official day I decided to rename the podcast. Signifying to all that The Journey A Meeting of The Minds had to fade to black.
Initially, I was excited about this new venture. However, when all the joy and jubilation subsided this deep sense of fear crept up internally. I began to wonder if I’d made the right decision. I mean what if the show doesn’t get the same feedback as the previous one did? How will I address my audience if they don’t receive the new show as well as I would hope? So many questions plagued my mind. Right before things got out of hand the Holy Spirit calmly whispered…
If it is God’s will then it is God’s bill.
Instinctively all fear was gone and peace of mind resumed.
Interestingly the Holy Spirit reminded me that seven years prior God gave me the first show name and structure. This time He has done the same thing. If God can do it for The Journey A Meeting of The Minds then He can do it on a grander scale for the new podcast. Confidently I know this for sure. God can do it!
So without further delay, allow me to introduce you to my new podcast Sown & Rooted; the show where we get to the root of the matter and discuss life-changing experiences that have shaped who we are today.
In conclusion, the next time you feel that a season of change has fallen upon you. Do yourself a favor and get like Nike and JUST DO IT! It will all work out for your good.
Have a great adventure everyone!
